I started working in the field of labor and delivery as a Registered Nurse in 1975, well before consistent fetal monitoring, epidurals, fathers in delivery rooms, birthing rooms - when the stages of labor were determined by the sweat on a mom's upper lip, the curl of her toes and the tone of her screams. Well, some things haven't changed.
